Bob Crane - Tribute

Over 6 Decades of Service to the Community of Sherman

Bob's Legacy

Bob has been a cornerstone of our department and community since joining The Stanley Hose Company in 1961. His journey in emergency medical services began in 1971, when he took his first EMT class. From that moment on, Bob poured his heart into answering calls for help—dedicating himself to serving his neighbors with unwavering compassion, professionalism, and humility.

In 1982, Bob was among the first to complete the inaugural Advanced EMT course offered in Chautauqua County, once again demonstrating his commitment to growth and excellence in care. Over the span of more than five decades, he has devoted thousands of hours to responding to emergencies—offering reassurance and lifesaving support in some of the most difficult moments families and individuals have faced. Whether it was a neighbor, a friend, or a complete stranger, Bob was there.

Throughout his career, Bob has received numerous accolades recognizing his service, including the 2018 Chautauqua County EMS Provider of the Year Award. However, perhaps the most meaningful recognition came when he was named Chautauqua County EMT of the Year in 1983 for his role in successfully resuscitating a man in cardiac arrest—a moment that epitomizes Bob’s impact. If you ask Bob, it was never about the awards or recognition; it was always about being there when someone needed him most.

To our department and to the community, Bob was more than a responder—he was a symbol of dependability, calmness, and compassion. He was, in every sense of the word, a security blanket for our town. After 54 years of EMT service, Bob has made the difficult decision to retire from EMS in 2025. While his presence will be deeply missed, his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of emergency responders.

This page is a fitting tribute to a man whose selflessness, dedication, and quiet heroism have touched countless lives across Western New York.

Thank You!
